Dewey to Cumnock

To continue the Inverness Ride into the neighborhoods north of Palatine Road we need to cross Palatine Road. I prefer to cross at Firth (south of Palatine Road) and Dewey (on the north side). The photo above shows the shoulder on Palatine Road. It's not much, but it helps a little and it's just a quick jog over to Dewey Road on the left. 

OK, this is Dewey (just off of Palatine road). I think that little stretch on Palatine Road will be worth it to you after you get into this area... After you get up the next few hills on Dewey and Inverway that is! There are a couple of very steep hills ahead. It's terrible going this direction (uphill of course) but great coming back the other way.

The old willow tree on Dewey Road as it winds north towards the steep hills. The road winds through a very open part of Inverness here. It seems like the houses are farther apart than in other parts of Inverness.

There is a gradual incline on this part of the road but this is not really the steep hill just yet. There is also a cross road up ahead that you need to watch out for. Although there is usually not a lot of traffic in this neighborhood, there is not very good visibility at the intersection ahead until you are already crossing the road.

This is one of the houses on the way up one of the steep hills. It's not the kind of hill that you actually end up having to walk up but it is pretty difficult even a very low gear. I'm usually glad when I'm past it anyway.

The photo above is taken from the top of the hill as you head back down a short distance to Cumnock from Inverway. Cumnock is on the left but very hard to see in the photo.
