Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail
Ironsided Bridges and Elroy

Here's one of the iron sided bridges towards the eastern end of the trail. I'm sure that the iron sides are from the original C&NW Railroad bridge. I don't know about the wooden planks but I'm pretty sure that these have been restored after this was converted from the railway to the bike trail.

Here's the welcome sign to Elroy. The beginning of the trail for many... the end (or turnaround actually) for myself... (I took the trail from Sparta to Elroy).

OK, as I mentioned before I am editing and updating some of the content on these pages a little after the fact but this was the Elroy population sign as of July 2003. I'm not sure what it would be now, but I'm guessin that it may not be a real lot higher (oh yea, except for Sara's new baby and Jenny who had twins this year! :-) ). OK, that's funny for those of us who live in much more populated areas.

An entry point with parking at the Elroy end of the trail. I did not go to the intersection of the 400 trail on this particular trip, but this town is where the Elroy-Sparta trail and the 400 trail meet.

I did actually ride the 400 State Trail much later (in October of 2011) and have documented that entire trail on our 400 State Trail pages here. I have mentioned before that the photos for these pages are pretty old and the quality is not that good. The photos on the 400 State Trail photo tour are much better and a big improvement... although the newer trail pages on this site are even better!

 

This is actually heading back towards Sparta again. The trail is much more open and sunny at the Elroy end of the trail. This part is a little straight and not all that exciting though (it gets much better soon though).
