The Deer Grove Bike Path Photos
East of Quentin to 3 Mile Loop

This is the nice wooded entrance into Deer Grove East (on the Black Trail). This section is mostly downhill going this direction. As I mentioned on the previous photo page (photo page #2), these photos are old (from 2003) and actually a little historical since they have chopped down a large number of the trees in this area. :-(

I was actually really disappointed when I first rode on this part of the bike trail after they chopped down the trees. I actually still don't know what their reasons were but I'm sure that the forest preserve district did this for a reason and hopefully it was a good one. It may have been to clear old growth to hopefully have the woods come in even better than before or maybe it was dues to some kind of disease or pests that the trees might have had. If I do find out what happened here I will update these pages.

Coming out into Deer Grove East, just before the 2.9 mile loop, which they now call the Red Trail (with of  plenty of human animals on weekends and nice days...(joggers, roller bladers, walkers, other bikers...(actually it doesn't usually get that crowded compared to some of the other trails in the area (Busse Woods comes to mind...)). Most people get on to this trail from the parking areas (mostly on the south side of this trail) so some people (like the casual walkers or families with small kids) do not make it this far so there are usually less people on this side of the trail.

A section by the RC model airplane field... The RC planes can be pretty entertaining to watch... I have actually seen 2 of them crash while riding by (This is not an everyday thing, but I ride this trail a lot and just happened to be there when it happened... twice!). Keep those helmets on here... :-)
