Passing McKinley Woods

A barge on the Illinois River viewable from the I&M bike trail. As you can see there are some trees or bushes between the trail and the river at this point. I was trying to get the photo of the barge and also frame it with the leaves too. Well, you get the idea even if I did not do a great job with the effect that I was going for.

This is the McKinley Woods access from the I&M Canal trail. We did not take the side trip but it is a pretty good size park (or forest preserve) that is located right at the bend in the river.

A bridge with a pretty good view of the River on the right and the canal on the left (although the canal is a little dark in this photo). This is near McKinley Woods so I am not sure if the river is the Illinois, the Kankakee or Des Plaines since this is actually where all 3 of these rivers meet. This is just a little south of where we started our ride in Channahon.

The underpasses on the trail are nice so you can ride non-stop without having to cross roads and deal with traffic. This one is pretty low underpass and I'm sure that this would get flooded when the rivers are high.

A little later on our ride the trail was more wooded even though you are never really very far from the river or canal.  The photo above is one of the fairly typical wooded scenes along the path.

We crossed another wooden bridge with the center strip at this point. I believe that the white house to the left in the distance is the old lock keepers house since I have seen what looks like the same house shows in other photos and described that way. Sorry it's pretty far in the distance and hard to make out in this particular photo.
