Here is where we started our second trip on the I&M Canal Trail (in October). This is actually just a little east of Marseilles. We were trying to pickup the trail where we ended our trip from Channahon to Marseilles years earlier.

This is one of the many pedestrian bridges that cross the canal connecting the canal path to the streets and towns on the other side of the canal. This particular location was residential and there were streets and houses on both sides of the canal but there are places along the trail where the bridges are the only connection from the trail into the towns.

We ran info a couple of fallen trees in the path on this part of the trail. We moved these branches out of the path before we passed by then ran into another tree in the trail a short time later. I guess someone followed our example and moved that tree off the path later because neither were there on our way back.

Here's Dale on his recumbent as we passed over the leaf covered trail and through the high canopy of trees. The photo above is from one of the more remote and wooded parts of the trail between Marseilles and Ottowa.

There are large signs like this as you pass through the towns on the I&M trail but if you are wondering where you are in between towns there are quite a few smaller mile markers along the way too (pictured later in this photo tour).

This is as you pass under one of the highways in Ottawa. Ottowa is the town where the Illinois River and the Fox River meet (this is actually where the Fox River ends). The I&M Canal Trail goes over the Fox River at the Fox River Aqueduct which was a major engineering project when the canal was made.
