Busse Woods New Western Bridge Photos

This is where the trail splits just before the new bridge on the west end of the Red Trail. You stay to the left to go out to the new bridge. The branch on the right goes out to the Black Trail along the expressways (routes 53/355) and then west along Golf Road.

This is a view of the path as it goes uphill to the new bridge as seen from the entrance of the Black Trail. Note that this is all brand new and the grass has just been planted and has not fully grown yet. This is also from early spring so the grass would not be completely green anyway.

 

Here's the curve as you approach the new bridge heading west and turning south to go over Higgins Road (Route 72).

 

A closer view as I approached the bridge. This was early in the day on a week day and, as you can see, the bridge is already getting plenty of use.

 

I just had to show what the Elk Head on the bridge looked like from the inside of the bridge as you cross over Higgins.

Then, of course, here is what you see from Higgins Road below as you drive under the new bridge.

 

This view is as I was just about in the middle of the bridge crossing from the north side of Busse Woods to the south side. I have made this crossing numerous times BEFORE this bridge was here and I can not tell you how NICE it is to finally have a bridge here!

This photo shows where you come out on the south side of Higgins as you come off the bridge. This is a little east of the actual intersection where the trail used to start on this side and is actually right next to the entrance to the Busse Lake Boating Center entrance off of Higgins. You can see the forest preserve lakes off in the distance to the left.

 

And finally a photo of the entire bridge over Higgins as seen from the forest preserve Boating Center entrance. I had heard that the cost of this bridge was very significant but the again this bridge will probably save lives in the future.

I am so glad to have this addition to the Busse Woods Trail!
