The path goes along Route 53 here, but it is pretty much in the distance so it is still nice in this direction. You can actually go under the expressway if you take the path off to the right, but I don't think it goes anywhere interesting and pretty much just puts you into a heavy traffic area. If you really wanted to try to make it to Woodfield, you would go that way... (but I would wear a good helmet and body armor!
OK, back to the open fields again. It may not be real obvious from the photo here but this is actually a really large and open nature preserve in this area. We are heading north at this point towards the forest preserve entrance and parking and Golf road (route 58).
Here's a guy flying a kite in the forest preserve. If you blow this photo up, you can make out that he has some kind of wheeled device (like a large off the road skateboard) that he was riding on and trying to get the kite to pull him... Interesting...
Here's where the path crosses some of the forest preserve entrances off of Golf Road (Route 58). This is after the path curves around and heads mostly east parallel to Golf Road. If you take the forest preserve and parking lot entrance (just ahead) to the right you come to the RC (radio controlled) airplane field. It can be fun to watch the RC airplane aerobatics in this area.
There is a nice little slightly wooded area after the open field forest preserves areas.
This is coming out of the woods and into some major traffic and congested areas... It's still nice on the path, and if you are doing something practical (like a utility ride) you can get to restaurants and shopping this way...
