Busse Woods Bike Trail - Photos 1
from the Elk Herd off of Arlington Heights Road

Here's where I started the Busse Woods ride at the Elk Herd (just off of Arlington Heights Road, north of the Higgins road intersection)

Although I took the main loop to the right (to ride the trail loop in a counter clockwise direction) from the Elk Heard, I started off to the left to check out the elk heard and get a few photos while the Elk were hangin out in the woods. The fenced area on the left (above) is the elk heard area.

There really are elk in Elk Grove! It was actually hard to get this shot of the elk since they were off in the woods in the distance when I started the ride (around 1:00). When I got back (around 4:30) they were much even more visible (but my camera battery was dead by then... :-( )

This is the bridge that goes over Higgins Road (Route 72) looking south (The last photo in the tour is of this bridge looking north at the end of the ride...). I remember walking and riding on this trail BEFORE the bridge was built... and waiting to cross Higgins... It is WAY nicer having this bridge!

Here's where the path winds through one of the wooded areas (at mile marker 4). If you like riding through the woods (in the shade) this is a nice part of the trail. I started my ride at the elk heard and  am heading mostly north and west on the trail at this point. If you look on the map (located in the first page of this bike trail article) this is the RED trail loop.

Here's an opening at one of the groves that goes back into the woods.There are a number of groves along Higgins Road (route 72) that wind off into the woods a little. When you ride this part of the trail you need to cross the grove entrances.
