The Affordable High Tech Training Bike

You may not have the time or resources to find, travel to and ride the most exhilarating bike routes in the world but now you can at least simulate the best rides (or even your own local rides) and stay motivated as you train or get into shape with the new, high tech Proform GT Training Bike. Proform has finally come out with a much more affordable, magnetic resistance, Indoor Cycle style fitness bike similar in features to the popular Proform Tour de France (TDF) Indoor Cycle.

The Proform GT is a streamlined version of the Proform TDF that comes with an iFit enabled console ~ allowing you to select and ride routes anywhere in the world ~ and built-in workout apps that also use Google Maps.

Although you do not get ALL of the functionality of the Proform TDF, you do get the silent magnetic resistance, faster gear ratio (simulated of course) and the key motivational and boredom breaking features of the TDF ~ including the iFit enabled console, workouts with Google Maps and the music player jack and sound system.

The Proform TDF gives you more features than the Proform GT but at more than twice the price (for this year's TDF model). The features that you get on the TDF and not on the GT include the 20% incline and decline feature, the 7 inch touch screen, the power meter, more built-in apps and more gears.

You also get an adjustment for the incline and decline on the Proform TDF but since the GT does not have the physical incline/decline feature this would only be another resistance adjustment which you can use the gear changes for.

Keep in mind that this fitness bike is an Indoor Cycle (Spin® Bike) style. Indoor Cycles are typically used for more intense workouts than traditional magnetic resistance "Upright Exercise Bikes" and for fitness classes. Most Indoor Cycles are usually highly adjustable and come with friction based resistance. 

iFit Live, Google Maps and Motivational Features

The primary features that distinguish this exercise bike from other traditional ~ low tech ~ exercise bikes are the Indoor Cycle Style with Silent Magnetic Resistance, iFit Live technology and Google Maps workouts.

The console on this bike is iFit Enabled and not just iFit Compatible which means that you do not need to buy the iFit Live card module although you still need to get an iFit Live account, which is sold separately, for the unlimited routes. Proform GT Console

One of the features of iFit Live is that it uses Google Maps to map out and simulate the terrain of the routes that you select by adjusting the bikes resistance to match the actual terrain of the selected routes.

This technology has been around for quite a few years now and has been improving with new software versions each year. It is actually really cool to select real world routes and follow your progress on the console screen ~ and optionally on a laptop or mobile device ~ as the bike resistance adjusts to your ride.

Although the console display on the Proform GT is not that large or advanced, keep in mind that iFit Live is compatible with laptops and mobile devices like tablets and smart phones which give you the option to track your progress online or to use it with Google Maps Street View to actually see the route that you have selected as you ride.

 

About-Bicycles Review:

As I mentioned above, this is a High Tech Fitness Bike so if you are fairly comfortable with high tech devices you will probably love the things that you can do with this bike and will enjoy the variety of options that you get. If you are not comfortable with high tech devices you may be a little overwhelmed.

This bike is fully adjustable (like most indoor cycles) with a vertically and horizontally adjustable seat and vertically adjustable handlebars ~ which adjust forward as you go higher for the horizontal adjustment. The frame is a commercial grade steel and is stable and durable.

Once assembled you can just get on and ride using the manual modes but you will need to take some time to get familiar with the more advanced technology features of this bike and to set up the optional iFit Live options if you have them.

Since the iFit Live option is sold separately you can get this option when you get the bike or wait until you are ready for the additional features or need some additional motivation.

I think that the relief from Indoor Cycling boredom that the technology of this bike makes this fitness bike a good selection for those who enjoy a good workout with the latest technology.
