The Aon Center (formerly the Standard Oil Building (I'm getting used to that change now) in the center of this photo. The photos on this page were taken from the Chicago Lakefront Trail as it winds through Museum Campus. The Chicago skyline photos here were taken from the Shedd Aquarium. The Shedd Aquarium along with the neighboring Adler Planetarium (which extends just a little further out into Lake Michigan at the northeastern tip of Northerly Island) are some of the best places (other than out on the lake) for photos of the Chicago skyline (IMO).
Here's a panoramic view (multiple photos "stitched" together) of the Lakefront Path and the Chicago skyline taken from the Shedd Aquarium. You can't really get the entire Chicago skyline in one photo (without special photographic equipment) but fortunately, stitching a series of photos together for a panoramic view is much easier these days with digital photography.
This is a view of the Chicago Lakefront Trail as it winds around the Shedd Aquarium. The Adler Planetarium can be seen in the distance to the left (with the circular dome). I didn't go out to the Planetarium on this particular ride but it is easily access able from the trail here and there are paths into Northerly Island just south of the Planetarium. If you have the time, I would definitely suggest a tour of Northerly Island. It is very scenic.
Here's another panoramic view (multiple photos "stitched" together) of the Chicago skyline taken a little further down from the bike path as you go around the Shedd Aquarium. This view includes the bike path along with the skyline.
One more photo of the Lakeshore Path as it winds around the Shedd Aquarium. I may have gotten a little carried away with the photos in this location but I just really thought that it was a nice place (to be and to photograph).
Coming up to the tunnel that passes under Solidarity Drive. I made a reference earlier in this photo tour to a news article about the astronomical construction expenses of some of the tunnels and bridges that the Lakefront Path uses and I think this was one of the expensive tunnels.
Inside the tunnel passing under Solidarity Drive. Well, it looks pretty cool as you ride through it anyway.
Here's a photo tour of the Chicago Lakefront Bike Path, from the north end of the trail, at Hollywood Avenue (just north of Lincoln Park) south to the end of the trail and back.
