Here's the northern end of Lincoln Park. The first time that I rode this trail I was hoping that there would be a sign for Lincoln Park Zoo or a leg of the bike path that branched off to the zoo but I did not see one. For those of you who are not as familiar with Chicago, Lincoln park Zoo is a major zoo in the city and it is also free. I would have liked to take another short visit but the zoo is actually on the other side of Lake Shore Drive and east of the lagoon. It is close to the bike path and further south from here and you do need to cross LSD and get to the east side.
Chicago's Lake Shore Drive is on the right in this photo, the Lakefront Bike path is next followed by Lake Michigan on the left. This is actually how the entire bike path is layed out (between Lake Shore Drive and Lake Michigan and between South Shore Drive and Lake Michigan when you get to the southern part of the trail).
Lake Michigan is on the left and it is still a little wooded in this area between LSD and the Lake. This looks a little like the place where we took a break (for snacks and juice, etc.) when I rode the "Bike the Drive" ride in May (although I know it was north of here). Once again, for those less familiar with Chicago, there is an event held each year (on Memorial Day weekend) where they close down Lake Shore Drive to vehicle traffic and allow bikes only on the rode. It is really cool to ride right on LSD (I'm referring to the road :-) ) and see the city from that perspective.
This photo shows the lakefront path just before the Belmont Harbor Marina. Maybe not the best photo in this case but my real purpose was to document most of the Lakefront Bike path.
I guess you could call this the Photo Tour Da Lakefront! This photo is at the Belmont Harbor Marina
Still heading south and we are just starting to get a good view of the Chicago skyline at this point.
A similar view with no people (a little unusual). There were a lot of cyclists, walkers, runners, roller bladers out but it was still pretty easy to get around in most places.
Here's a photo tour of the Chicago Lakefront Bike Path, from the north end of the trail, at Hollywood Avenue (just north of Lincoln Park) south to the end of the trail and back.
