The River Bend Trail (aka Silver Glen Trail) runs alongside Silver Glen Road at this point as I continued my ride west of Randall Road. This is the part of the trail that continues further west to the wetlands area. As you can see on the sign post above (if you view the blow-up photo) that this is in South Elgin. Once again the sign says no martinis on the trail (they must have a problem with that) :-)
You will pass by the big Thornwood sign located at Thornwood Blvd and Silver Glen Road. This is one of the main access roads into this neighborhood.
As you can see in the photo above, the trail is still paved here and still runs alongside Silver Glen Road. This is a very straight part of the trail with very moderate hills.
The trail forks off into two directions here. The branch to the left just continues alongside Silver Glen Road and the branch to the left heads off into the Wetland Protection Area, which is the way I went for the remainder of the photos below. The branch to the left (along the road) does not go much further from this point).
This the part of the trail that winds through the wetlands. These photos are from the ride that I took in the spring as you may have noticed. The trees are just starting to get their summer leaves but are still a little bare.
The photo above is one of the small lakes or ponds along the trail. I don't think that the lakes have names but the trail runs along Otter Creek which is also the name of a forest preserve just north of here (the trail does not go into the forest preserve (at least at this time) although that would be a really nice enhancement to this trail system.
There are a few places along the Silver Glen / River Bend Trail in this area where it branches off into the neighborhood and out to the residential streets as you can see ahead and to the right in the photo above. This is also a pretty nice neighborhood with some fairly lager and newer looking houses.
This part of the trail loops through various parts of the wetlands here and off into the neighborhood (as I mentioned above and as you can see in the photo above too).
You see the Wetland Protection Area signs in various locations throughout this part of the trail. Although this is actually the end of the Silver Glen / River Bend Trail photo tour, this trail connects to the Randall Road Trail east of here (at Randall Road) and I have included links to the photos for that trail below also.
Here's the photo tour of the River Bend Bike Trail (aka the Silver Glen Trail) and the Randall Road Trail from April, 2010 and August 2011.
