The Randall Road Trail Photos
From Silver Glen Road to the Long Bridge

The Randall Road Trail runs mostly north and south alongside Randall Road (of course) and is a great connection between the Fox River Trail and the Great Western Trail (via the River Bend Trail). OK, it seems like a lot of trails but it is fairly straight forward and gives you a lot of bike trail options north and west of Chicago.

The photo above is at the north end of the Randall Road Trail at the intersection of Randall Road and Silver Glen Road - Note: you are not supposed to drink martinis on the trail! :-)

I took the photo above with the trail and the bridge over Randall Road from next to the corn field that was right next to the trail. You get a little mixture of a rural setting (like the corn field) and a suburban setting. The bridge in the distance is at the Randall Road and Silver Glen Road intersection and just ahead to the left is the fairly large Silver Glen Crossing shopping center.

The northern end of the Randall Road trail is not all that scenic since it is straight and fairly flat and runs right next to Randall Road. Although it is next to Randall Road at least there is a little amount of space between the trail and the road (I have been on other trails that were about 1 foot away from a road with a lot of traffic).

The gates on the trail are staggered to allow pedestrian traffic only. From a distance it looks like it is gated off but, as you can see, it is just staggered. Unfortunately this breaks the rhythm of the ride a little since you need to slow down quite a bit or stop to get around this thing. I suppose the intent could be to slow down bike traffic for the up coming downhill section.

There is a nice downhill stretch (going this way anyway) as you approach the long bridge on the Randall Road Bike Trail.
