This is where the River Bend / Silver Glen Trail connects to the Fox River Trail (just before the long bridges in South Elgin). The River Bend Trail is off to the right in the photo above and the Fox River Trail continues straight ahead.
Essentially, when you continue on the Fox River Trail and cross the bridges you cross over to the east (and south) side of the Fox River. The river actually does bend at this point (hence the trail name) which is why you are south of it to start out. When you take the River Bend Trail you stay on the west (and north) side of the Fox River.
As you see the trail is referred to as the "Silver Glen" Trail here although it is called the River Bend Trail on the Map in the Forest Preserve (and in Google Maps). I suppose that the begriming of the trail (at the FRT intersection) would be the River Bend part, since it runs along the bend in the Fox River, and the latter part of the trail would be the Silver Glen Trail since it runs along Silver Glen Road at that point.
This is as you come into the John Duerr Forest Preserve along the Fox River. This would actually be on the north side of the river here where the river goes east and west for a short distance.
The photo above shows a pavilion by the river and just off of the trail. This is access able from the John Duerr Forest Preserve parking area. The John Duerr FP is actually next to Vasa Park but I believe that they are separate parks.
After you pass through the main parking area for the forest preserve, the River Bend Trail heads north out to Route 31.
This is where the trail runs parallel to Route 31. I was heading south in the photo above with Route 31 on the right and the River Band Trail a little to the left.
Here's the photo tour of the River Bend Bike Trail (aka the Silver Glen Trail) and the Randall Road Trail from April, 2010 and August 2011.
