There was a lot of activity here in Kenosha on the day that we chose for our ride. Here in Simmons Island Park they had their annual Pike River Rendezvous where they pitch tents next to the lake and dress up as pioneers and fur traders.
We had quite an unexpected show as we rode through Simmons Island Park and around the horse drawn wagons, tents and people in their pioneer outfits.
The bike trails go right along the beach through Kenosha but there is one little part of the route where you have to go up a hill and cross the bridge (on 50th street) to cross over to Simmons Island (which is technically a peninsula and not really an island).
There are stairs up to the road and bridge but when you are on a bike, well, you have to use this beaten down path get up to the road. Hey, a lot of rides have obstacles at some point...
This is where we got back out to Lake Michigan just north of Southport Marina and the light houses area in Kenosha. The fisherman in the lower right corner of this photo had a pretty nice view.
Just a little past where the fisherman was enjoying his view you get a view of the red lighthouse off in the distance. The ride through Kenosha is very scenic as you can see here.
Here is the walkway that goes along the lake and out to the end of the marina. The bike path is off to the right and there is also tracks for a trolley car that goes into this area.
We got back to where we started our trip, near Southport Marina in Kenosha, on the shores of Lake Michigan just as the sun was setting. Fortunately for us, they also had the Taste of Wisconsin going on this weekend too!
We were really hungry after our 30 mile ride from Kenosha to Racine so we put our bikes in the van and went to the Taste of Wisconsin for a good ol Wisconsin supper!
The rocks along the Lake Michigan shoreline were lit up and colorful as the sun was setting on the Taste of Wisconsin in Kenosha.
I hope this photo tour has given you a nice Taste of Wisconsin Bike Trails! OK, that was corny, but I couldn't resist.
Here's the photo tour of the Root River and Racine Trails from the Root River Pathway in Racine, to the Racine County Trail, the Kenosha County trail, the Pike Bike trail on Lake Michigan and into the town of Kenosha Wisconsin. This ride was from August 2015.
