I really don't know what this is supposed to be... So it must be "art"! You get back on the the regular (paved) trail again here and this part runs between Waukeegan Ave and Green Bay Road.
After about a half mile ride, the trail goes out on to Vine Street and right past Highland Park High School. This is where you need to weave through Highland Park on the residential side streets. I believe that there is actually a few ways to get through Highland Park but I have always taken the residential route. It's nice to ride through here and it is a pretty bike friendly area.
You need to watch for the bike route signs as the trail winds through some beautiful north shore neighborhoods. For those of you not familiar with the area, these are some of the most affluent neighborhoods in the Chicagoland area.
I have actually lost track of the way the bike route is supposed to go but it's not hard to make a correction even if you do stray from the actual route.
... Just one of the houses along the way... It looks modest from the outside, but was very nicely landscaped (nice flowers and stuff...) and probably costs a small fortune!
OK, I couldn't resist... Dale (parked)... at Dale and Park!
The signs for the bike route actually take you down Linden Ave which is one block west of here but like I said it's not much of a problem if you stray from the actual bike route a little here. There is actually a pretty nice park right on Lake Michigan here if you take one of the side streets east out to the lake.
The park is Central Park and you can take Central Ave. east to get to it. We didn't go out to the park on this particular ride but I have been to it a few times on other rides (and it would have been a much nicer place to take a break and see the lake then were we stopped further north).
This is the Highland Park train station where the business bypass part of the trail comes out of the neighborhood and back to a regular bike path after you pass the train station parking area..
