Fox River Trail Photos
From Elgin North and Under I90

The Fox River Trail just north of Elgin as we continue our ride from Geneva to Dundee. We have just passed through some nice (and some not so nice) parts of Elgin and this is where you meet up with the trail again in the northern part of Elgin.

This photo is as you go by the city of Elgin Slade Avenue Facility. I've actually lost track of the trail here a few times and passed through on the small road and parking area. It really doesn't matter though, it's still easy to get by here and it's a very short distance to get around here. 

I always thought that this was an interesting looking little castle like building just south of Dundee. I have not actually seen any signs describing what it is (as you pass by it on the trail) but I could imagine some fair maiden with long blonde hair on the top floor asking the cyclists below for help. :-) OK, sorry, I got a little carried away on that one.

This is where you go under Interstate 90 just south of Dundee Illinois... I've seen the upper side of this expressway many times (on the way up to the Dells area in Wisconsin), but this is what it looks like from underneath!

Now that I have ridden the entire Fox River Trail, from Oswego to Algonquin (and then beyond that all the way to Wisconsin on the Prairie Trail), I am always looking for the trail when I'm in my car and cross the river at any point. Actually, although the Fox River Trail ends in Algonquin, the Fox River itself does continue north (branching off to the east a little in Algonquin) all the way to McHenry and into the Chain of Lakes (and into Wisconsin).
