This is just after going down the hill with the small, scenic lake on the right and just before you go back uphill to the Barrington Road intersection. Fortunately, the downhill section is longer (going this direction) so the momentum will take you right up to the intersection.
There's a nice little lake hidden away on the right here. Actually, I think this scene is just before the photo above (but it is pretty much in the same place anyway). Most of the time I just fly by this since I don't want to break the momentum that you get from the downhill section here. In this case I stopped to enjoy the scene and for the photo.
This is coming up to where the trail used to end at Penny Road and the start of the newer Crabtree section of the trail.
Here's where the Algonquin Road bike trail used to end at Penny Road (before the Crabtree extension). The Crabtree extent ion to the trail is only around 1 and 1/2 miles but it is a fairly scenic and quiet ride (especially compared to the sections of this trail that run next to the road).
Note: This photo is, of course, obsolete now (as of 2009) but I like to keep this photo out here for historical purposes. It is so much nicer that the trail has been extended but it was not always that way. The last page of photos in this set (photo page 9) shows the Crabtree trail extent ion and the trail head at Palatine Road. Although there is also a nature preserve on the other side of Palatine Road (north side) they have a big sign with all their "rules" including no bikes. :-(
Here's Penny Road (the sun is just starting to set in this picture...). You can extend your ride here but as you see the road is fairly narrow and you don't have that much of a shoulder... Traffic is usually not real bad here so it's not a bad road trip, although personally I usually prefer trails to being on the road... There are some beautiful houses to see in this area...

The photo tour below is the new Paul Douglas Loop from early spring of 2009. The trail had just been completed but the grass on the shoulders of the trail had not come in yet (it looks greener and nicer now).
