Here's the start of the Kankakee River Trail at the southwest end of the trail at Davis Creek Campground. You can also ride or walk the road and path down to the river, from the parking lot.
This part of the trail is crushed stone although the majority of the trail is paved. It is also wooded here and, as you can see by this partially fallen tree, there could be obstacles at times.
There are plenty of picnic tables, benches and washrooms along this trail so as far as bike trails go, there are plenty of extras. This is actually nice compared to trails that do not have anything.
The photo above is from a little after the trail becomes paved as you head north. This is just before it runs into the river ~ straight ahead in this photo ~ and the path runs between the river on one side and a small park road on the other side.
You can see more of the river here along with a bench and picnic table if you want to hang out here for a break, snack or something.
Someone else had the idea to hang out here I guess based on the bikes leaning up against the trees by the river.
This photo shows the steps that go up to the viewing platform that is right on the river. There is a small branch off of the main path to get here and you can see it from the main path.
Here's the photo tour of the Kankakee River Trail with plenty of first hand riding details. This ride was from June, 2016.
