The photo above is a view of the Baraboo River with the original railroad bridge in the foreground. This is not too far from Reedsburg where we started our trip heading northeast. The 400 State Trail follows general direction of the Baraboo River and crosses the river in some locations.
This is a tunnel under one of the highways. Not quite as dramatic as the tunnels on the Elroy-Sparta Trail (much farther down the trail) but at least it's nice that you don't actually have to cross the highway.
This is a view of the same tunnel from the other side and later in the day (on our ride back).
There is a WW2 tank on display as you enter the town of Lavalle. I don't know if I would want to live in the house that the tank permanently is pointing at! The small towns that you pass through on this trail break up the scenic, but more isolated, parts of the trail with some interesting landmarks and rural scenes.
There was another WW2 tank on the trail just outside of Elroy so I guess this trail is pretty well defended! :-) OK, aside from my dubious tank "humor" I personally find these WW2 tanks interesting since my father drove one of these in WW2.
The sign on this building says "Antiques". The side of the building seems to verify that the building itself is also an antique! :-)
A nice welcome to the town of Lavalle. Sometimes I take photos of the town welcome signs to keep track of where my photos were. It can actually be very helpful.
This is a view of the colorful sumac leaves and bike trail as you ride through Lavalle. OK, I admit it, I had to ask around and lookup what kind of plant this was. At least I know now and continue to learn new things every day.
