Back to the NBT, this is looking back (south) at a rider in the thick woods ~ which is just around the corner from a very busy intersection as you will soon see. This is still in the Miami Woods or St. Paul Woods part of the trail.
Looking north this is where the trail meets busy Dempster Street. The contrast between the thick woods here and the busy road and intersection ahead is surprising as you will see in the photo below.
This is the a part of the North Branch Trail that runs along Dempster St. for a short distance. You cross the bridge (over the river) and train tracks and can then cross Dempster at the light. Both sides of the trail go off into the woods again right after the short ride along this busy road.
This is looking back from where the North Branch Trail goes out to Dempster Street from the other direction. This is looking out at Dempster from the north side of the trail.
This is another little wooded part of the trail just after Linne Woods.
The fallen log caught my eye as I was riding by then I noticed what looks like steps made from logs. I'm not sure if that was some kind of path or if it led anywhere but it seemed interesting.
You can see the paved and crushed stone trails that run side by side here just before you reach Harms Road.
This is a little stretch of the trail that runs alongside Harms Road just before you cross Golf Road where I had to wait quite a while to cross both times that I hit this intersection. The trail actually splits off into a few different directions after you cross Golf Road (heading north). This gives you the option to loop around the Harms Woods forest preserves although you still have to cross Harms Road to get from the east side of the FP to the west side.
Here's the photo tour of the North Branch Trail from Devon Avenue in Chicago to the northern end of the trail, at Dundee Road and then into the Chicago Botanic Gardens, from July, 2012.
