The photo above is the southern end of the Mammoth Cave Trail. This is park road, Mammoth Cave Parkway (on the right), ends just before Interstate 65 at Park City, Kentucky. This is where I turned around to head north back to the Mammoth Cave visitor center on the trail.
This is how the trail looks in this area in late October. Not all of the trees are showing color but, as you can see, much of the trail is covered with leaves.
A little further north you ride by Diamond Caverns which is an RV resort and golf place according to the sign out front.
THe trail just north of Diamond Caverns definitely has some fall color already. This is just before the first steep grade area as you head north.
There is an opening in the trail with a path that goes out to the park road and has a sign about what they call the Dripping Springs Encarpment.
THe photo above shows the Steep Grade sign and the trail next to it. I tried to capture how steep this is but it does not really show it in this photo.
THis photo, however, is looking down the same hill (ie. steep grade) and shows the grade much better.
Above shows one of the places where the trail narrows and becomes a single track trail.
Here's the photo tour of the Mammoth Cave Trail with plenty of first hand riding details. This ride was from October 22, 2017.
