GT Traffic Hybrid Bike Review

The GT Traffic is a Hybrid that GT calls its Urban/City bike. This bike can handle city ~ and suburban ~ rides as advertised and there is no reason it can't be used as a commuter, for light trail rides or for road trips. 2015 GT Traffic 2.0

When you're considering a GT hybrid there are quite a few models to choose from and some of the models are very similar to each other. The GT Traffic, for example is very similar to the GT Transeo.

Both of these bikes are hybrids with aluminum frames, disc brakes ~ on the higher end models ~ , similar design and component levels. The biggest difference with the GT Traffic is that this bike does not have a front suspension, keeping it lighter and faster.

GT got it's start with BMX and mountain bikes and builds some of the best and most durable bikes in the world. GT Traffic is now helping to establish GT as one of the best overall bike manufacturers in the world.

In some cases some bike categories (like hybrids) are not clearly defined and in other cases manufacturers and retailers use the latest marketing terms for their bike categories. Although, you sit in a comfortable upright position on this bike, I consider this bike to be a true Road/Mountain Hybrid bike and not a comfort bike (as I have seen it described on some websites).

GT Traffic Model Comparisons:

GT Traffic Features at a Glance: All 2011 GT Traffic bikes have GT Traffic 7000 series aluminum frame, mostly Shimano components, GT Traffic saddle with integrated taillight and 700c tires. After that there are quite a few differences with the GT Traffic models.

The biggest differences in the GT Traffic models are with the number of gears, (27 on the 1.0 and 2.0 and 24 on the 3.0), the GT Traffic 1.0 has disc brakes where the 2.0 and 3.0 do not and then the overall quality of the components, of course..

In addition the GT Traffic models 1.0 and 2.0 come with 700x35c tires where the models 3.0 and 4.0 come with 700x40c tires.

See the specifications below or the Performance Bike links (above) for their automated comparison feature to see the specific details on the other components.

About-Bicycles Review:

At the time of this review, it can be a little difficult to find all GT Traffic models online (new) (and even more difficult to find them offline). Once you have found the price/component level that meets your needs, the GT Traffic is an excellent hybrid (comfort, commuter, flat bar road) bike (choose your category).

If you are looking for a light and fast hybrid with disc brakes then go with the Traffic 1.0 (27 speed), if disc brakes are not important to you then the Traffic 2.0 and Traffic 3.0 will be a good choice.

I believe that the GT Traffic is one of the best hybrid bikes available online and I can easily recommend the GT Traffic as one of the best hybrid bikes in its price range.

Customer Reviews:

The GT Traffic has been around since 2010 so there are quiet a few customer reviews available online but mostly for 2010 and 2011 models.

The 2010 GT Traffic 1.0 was rated 4.6 of 5 stars overall (based on 5 reviews) at Performance at the time of this review.

One customer review that I believe describes the bike well was from "big guy from ohio " on 8/4/2011 includes:

"This bike is a blast to ride. Im a big guy and this has stood up to the challenges that a 6 foot 3 inch 300 lb guy can do to a bike. At my size, its not uncommon to break things and with 300 miles on the bike, I haven't had any problems except for some loose spokes that turned into me having to get the rear wheel trued up. I have had it on trails and the road without issues. The components are great and it shifts great. I did upgrade my grips and I may upgrade my rims later on. Disc brakes are key and they've done their job very well. Its a fun bike to ride and I love it."
